Mechanism of Action of 532nm Laser

532nm is a green wavelength with high absorption by melanin pigment. It is designed to selectively act on pigmented lesions located in the epidermal layer of the skin.

The 532nm laser is primarily operated in a Q-switched mode. This method works by instantaneously irradiating high-output energy for an extremely short duration of a few nanoseconds, selectively destroying only the pigment particles.

The short pulse energy is absorbed by melanin and converted into thermal energy. The resulting photo-mechanical shock causes melanin particles to break down into minute fragments.

Some of these fragmented pigment pieces form tiny scabs and naturally fall off, while others are processed by macrophages in the body and gradually expelled through the lymphatic system.

Through this process of pigment removal, visible changes such as lightening or improvement of freckles can be expected.
