Distinction 1: Laser Treatment Expected to Improve Solar Lentigo with Few Sessions
Solar lentigo treatment can be completed within a relatively short period.
Here, in phase 1, a 532nm Nd:YAG laser is used to help improve dark and distinct solar lentigo lesions.
If necessary, in phase 2, an Er:YAG erbium laser can be applied to manage even the finely remaining pigment.
While individual results may vary, improvement can generally be expected with approximately 2-3 treatment sessions.
To reduce the burden of unnecessary repeated treatments, we support achieving clear results in a short period through precise diagnosis and planning.
Our solar lentigo management system strives for satisfactory improvement.
Distinction 2: Dedication to Meticulous Care
We prioritize the quality of treatment. Therefore, one doctor limits the number of patients seen per day.
This policy aims to dedicate more sufficient time and attention to each patient.
In this way, detailed guidance and individualized plans can be established at every stage of consultation, treatment, and post-care. We have ample time to meticulously observe and consider the patient's skin condition and response.
As a result, treatment accuracy can be improved, allowing us to provide meticulous medical services rather than just routine consultations.
Rather than being constrained by consultation times, we focus on improving the skin condition of individual patients. We strive to provide a genuine approach to all patients.
Distinction 3: Individualized Treatment Settings
Considering the patient's skin tone, the size and depth of the lesion, and skin reactivity, we adjust the spot size, pulse energy, and fluence values during treatment.
For example, for bright skin tones with shallow pigmentation, precise irradiation can be performed with a small spot size and high energy. Conversely, for skin prone to hyperpigmentation, treatment prioritizes stability through output adjustment.
Such fine-tuned setting adjustments can improve the precision of treatment results and contribute to better improvement, even when using the same laser equipment,
which is one of the important aspects.
Distinction 4: Post-Treatment Recovery Management Plan
While 532nm laser treatment shows a fast response, scabs or temporary redness may occasionally appear after treatment. Therefore, it is important to focus on skin regeneration care and UV protection.
During 532nm laser and secondary erbium YAG laser treatments, the degree of pain experienced can vary among patients. Considering this, the use of anesthetic cream is decided during pre-consultation, and after treatment, we provide soothing care using cooling and Jaungo modeling packs.
Additionally, we provide DuoDerm in-clinic to contribute to faster recovery and protection from UV rays.
Distinction 5: Beyond Solar Lentigo, Customized Treatment Considering Overall Pigmentary Lesions
Many patients who visit for solar lentigo removal often have other dermal pigmentary lesions like melasma in addition to solar lentigo.
While there are methods that target only solar lentigo, many patients may wish for the overall mottled pigmentation on their face to also improve.
Through thorough consultation with the patient and utilizing diagnostic equipment, we identify the types of pigmentation on the face. Subsequently, we discuss and decide together on the treatment direction, whether to focus solely on epidermal pigmentation or to aim for improvement of various pigmentations across the entire face.
Through this, we can help brighten the patient's complexion.
What causes solar lentigo?
Solar lentigo is a flat, brownish pigmentary lesion that primarily results from ultraviolet (UV) exposure and the natural aging process of the skin.
This refers to a condition where melanin pigment is excessively accumulated in specific areas due to overactivity of melanocytes.
Continuous exposure to UV radiation leads to ongoing melanin production,
and as we age, the skin's regenerative capacity and pigment processing function weaken, allowing solar lentigo to gradually darken and spread widely.
It typically appears on the face, back of the hands, and arms, characterized by distinct borders and a dark brown color.
Main Areas of Solar Lentigo Occurrence
Solar lentigo (also known as sun spot or age spot) primarily appears restrictively in the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin.
Specifically, melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis become excessively activated due to UV stimulation,
resulting in melanin pigment accumulating intensively in specific areas.
Histologically, it is observed as an excessive accumulation of melanin pigment within the epidermis, without deep penetration into the dermal layer.
Compared to surrounding normal skin tissue, the lesion exhibits relatively distinct borders.
Due to these characteristics, it can show a good response to treatments targeting the epidermal layer, such as Q-switched 532nm lasers.
This lesion shows different characteristics from melasma or complex hyperpigmentation that affect the dermal layer.
Explanation of 532nm Wavelength
The 532nm wavelength is a green-spectrum wavelength that is well absorbed by melanin pigment. It can selectively affect only pigmentary lesions primarily located in the epidermal layer of the skin.
The 532nm laser is primarily utilized in a Q-switched manner. This method instantaneously emits high-energy laser pulses in nanosecond durations, helping to minimize damage to surrounding tissues and precisely destroy only the pigment particles.
Melanin selectively absorbs short-pulse energy, and during this process, photomechanical shock occurs along with heat. Due to this action, melanin particles are finely broken down.
Some of these finely fragmented pigments form tiny scabs and naturally fall off, while the remaining parts are processed by our body's macrophages and gradually expelled from the body through the lymphatic system.
As the destroyed pigments are gradually removed through this process, visible lentigo lesions can progressively lighten or improve.
Lentigo Lesion Management
While lentigo laser is one of the wavelengths usefully employed for lentigo management,
the success of the treatment is not determined solely by choosing the wavelength.
A comprehensive treatment plan is crucial, considering various factors such as an accurate diagnosis of each patient's lesion and delicate laser settings tailored to it.
Through this approach, more satisfying improvements can be expected for each individual.
Q&A
고객님들이 가장 많이 물어보시는 내용을 모았습니다.
How often is the treatment typically performed?
Considering the skin's regeneration cycle, treatments are often spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. This is to ensure effective pigment removal and allow sufficient time for the skin to recover.
How many treatment sessions are generally needed to improve lentigo?
Based on 532nm laser treatment, significant improvement can often be expected with 1 to 2 sessions. However, depending on individual skin characteristics, the depth or area of the lentigo, and typical sun exposure habits, an additional 2 to 3 sessions might be necessary.
